16 CAVALIER CORNER BY BRAD FRANKLIN A T SOME POINT EARLY IN THE season opener against Richmond, a ball carrier is going to catch a pass or run up the middle and a linebacker — likely Jordan Mack or Mal- colm Cook — is going to close quickly and tackle him for a yard or two gain. You'll have to forgive the crowd inside Scott Stadium if it takes a while before they don't expect that tackler to be Micah Kiser. After putting together one of the best ca- reers in school history, the Baltimore native is fresh out of eligibility and has taken his nose for the ball to the next level after being taken in the fifth round of this spring's NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Kiser wrapped up his career in Charlot- tesville by being named to both the All- ACC and All-ACC Academic teams, plus he was awarded UVA's Male Athlete of the Year and the 2017 Dudley Award as the best college football player in the Common- wealth. He also won the prestigious Camp- bell Trophy, which is commonly referred to as the Academic Heisman. "It's really been kind of been a crazy and a long year," the Sporting News All-Amer- ican said in mid-July. You wait for that and then you're going to the Senior Bowl, you're doing the combine, you're doing pro day, you're doing all these workouts, and you're constantly wondering where you're going to end up or what you're doing. "So it's kind of stressful, but it's non-stop. Then the draft comes and after that you have about a week and then you're out there doing THE TOTAL PACKAGE Micah Kiser's Contributions To UVA Are Many MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR MICAH KISER Kiser stood out on the football field and the classroom, earning All-America honors from Sporting News and winning the prestigious Campbell Trophy (which is referred to as the Academic Heisman).
