The Cardinal has won seven of the previous nine meetings between the two schools, including the last three. Notre Dame will attempt to exer- cise those demons against Stanford in what will be a matchup of top-25 pro- grams and could serve as a stepping- stone to a College Football Playoff run. In wins over San Diego State (31-10), USC (17-3) and UC Davis (30-10), the Cardinal ranked only 102nd nationally in total offense (358.3 yards per game) and tied for 111th in rushing offense (115.3). Star senior running back Bryce Love missed the UC Davis contest after struggling against both the Tro- jans and Aztecs, rushing for just 165 yards and a touchdown on 40 carries (4.1 yards per attempt). Last year, Love ran for 125 yards on 20 carries against the Irish on his way to a Heisman runner-up finish. He ended the year with 2,118 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground.
