JUNE 2019 19 WHAT THEY'RE SAYING "That dream seemed like a lifetime away in 2016. That's when head coach Lars Tiffany took over a program strug- gling to compete in the ACC, much less on a national stage, after racking up many winning seasons under long- time coach Dom Starsia. "But all the tweaks, Sunday weight room sessions and Culture Thursdays culminated in Virginia climbing back to the top of the NCAA lacrosse mountain." — Ron Counts, writer for The Daily Progress "Go in my office and physically sit at my desk. There's five championship trophies at the top of it hanging over me, and you feel that. I'm just so incredibly blessed to coach at a university that cares about its athletic teams and to coach such a dedicated, special group of men." — Head coach Lars Tiffany (The Daily Progress) "It's so surreal, and I feel like I'm floating on cloud nine. We've been through so much this year, and I'm just so excited for this team. We fought tooth and nail for this win, and we played our best game of the year." — Fourth-year Ryan Conrad (The Daily Progress) "It's magical. I'm almost crying right now. It just means the world. All of us have worked our butts off for a long time. We've been slowly building a culture that can win, and we proved that we can win with this culture. Now the torch is passed on to the younger guys. Now they have the journey to make it even bigger and better." — Redshirt fourth-year Logan Greco (VirginiaSports.com) "I think this is the best lacrosse game we've played in the three years we've been here as coaches, hands down. The best lacrosse game we've played, top to bottom: goalie play, faceoffs, defense, offense, clearing, riding. It's really cool to hit that pinnacle on the last day of the season, Memorial Day." — UVA assistant coach/offensive coordinator Sean Kirwan (VirginiaSports.com) "Winning today is great, and they'll remember this [forever], but they're going to do great things in life because of the way they carried themselves the entire season. Just so much fortitude, so much focus and determination. I'm just so proud of them." — UVA director of athletics Carla Williams (VirginiaSports.com) "It was a season full of checking off accom- plishments for Tiffany and the Wahoos — an ACC regular-season title, a conference tourna- ment championship, a trip back to Champion- ship Weekend and an abundance of unfor- gettable, pulse-pounding comeback wins along the way. No rally was necessary Monday as the Hoos claimed the ul- timate prize." — Jerry Ratcliffe of JerryRatcliffe.com PHOTO BY MATT RILEY/COURTESY UVA
