THIRD QUARTER: NOTRE DAME 28-14 Top Moment: Taking over at his 43-yard line with the Irish leading 21-14, Book found senior wideout Chase Claypool on a crossing route for 31 yards on the first play. On the next snap he connected with sophomore tight end Tommy Tremble, who split the seam against two deep safeties for a 26-yard touch- down with 8:06 left. Standout Performer: In addition to grabbing a score on his first career catch, Tremble added a 13-yard catch on the next series. Stats: Through three quarters Notre Dame had 343 total yards (210 rushing and 133 passing), while Lou- isville had 326 (203 rushing and 123 passing). Items: Louisville took the second half kickoff and drove 49 yards to a first down at Notre Dame's 26-yard line … However, Pass' third lost fumble on a scramble was forced by senior defensive end Ade Ogundeji and recovered by senior end Daelin Hayes at his 22-yard line … Notre Dame then was stopped on third- and-one and forced to punt. FOURTH QUARTER: NOTRE DAME 35-17 Top Moment: Leading 28-17 after a Louisville field goal, Notre Dame answered with a 75-yard drive in 12 plays that took 5:11 off the clock and ended with a one-yard tally by Smith. The Irish converted third-and-three, third-and-seven and third-and-four situations, and followed with a 34- yard completion from Book to Clay- pool to the Cardinals' two-yard line. Standout Performer: The Notre Dame pass rush included a sack by Hayes and an intentional grounding call forced by senior end Julian Ok- wara on fourth down. Stats: The final yardage was rela- tively close with Notre Dame pro- ducing 423 (230 rushing and 193 passing), while Louisville had 383 (249 rushing and 134 passing). Items: Louisville kicker Blanton Creque reduced the deficit to 28-17 with a 42-yard field goal at the 13:25 mark. A 37-yard completion from Pass to wideout Marshon Ford set up the score. ✦ Senior running back Tony Jones Jr. led the way for Notre Dame's strong ground game (230 yards and four scores), tallying a team-best 110 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries.
