56 THE WOLVERINE NOVEMBER 2019   PREP PROFILES Cullen Montgomery may be one of the most underrated prospects in the country. Only a three-star recruit, the Houston Bellaire Episcopal offensive tackle has an impressive offer sheet, highlighted by several college foot- ball powers. Montgomery, however, isn't wor- ried about rankings or recruiting right now. His mind is with his team. "I'm not too focused on recruit- ing," Montgomery said. "I have an obligation to my team to help us get a championship. That's what I'm do- ing. Coaches call me and text me a lot, but I'm focused on the season." Rivals rates the 6-5, 270-pounder as the No. 47 prospect in Lone Star State and the No. 35 offensive tackle nationally. Montgomery's phone has been blowing up since Sept. 1, the date when college coaches were permit- ted to initiate contact with high school juniors. Michigan offensive line coach Ed Warinner has been in constant contact with him. "Coach Warinner is a cool dude," Montgomery said. "I also know he gets on you when he needs to. I need somebody to push me. I like him a lot. He's a people person. You can really talk to him outside of foot- ball. He's a good man. We talk daily. We're building a good relationship." Montgomery made an unofficial visit to Michigan in the summer and will be back on campus not once but twice this fall. He plans to see the Wolverines in action against Notre Dame Oct. 26 and Ohio State Nov. 30. Three visits in a calendar year by an out-of-state recruit is a good sign, and Montgomery didn't hide the fact that the Wolverines are making an impression on him. "Man, Michigan is really high," Montgomery said. "I talk to Coach Warinner a lot. I've talked to Coach [Jim] Harbaugh. I can't wait to be back in Ann Arbor. "They treated me like family on my first visit. They showed my mom and me a good time. They showed me what a Michigan Man meant and the resources they have. That plays a big part in my recruitment." During his upcoming visits, Mont- gomery will have his eyes on a few different things. "I just want to see the offensive line dominate," Montgomery said. "I want to see how they execute. I want to talk to some of the players. I also just want to see how the staff runs things and how they handle things on game days." — EJ Holland Louis Hansen of Needham (Mass.) St. Sebastian's is one of the most sought after tight ends in the coun- try. The four-star 2021 prospect holds close to 20 offers and is constantly receiving calls and texts from coaches at premier programs. However, he isn't worried about recruiting too much at this point in the process. A two-way star for St. Sebastian's, Hansen is focused on helping him team win in the tough- est league in New England. "It's been difficult [balancing recruit- ing and football]," he said. "But my season comes first. I have a commit- ment to my teammates and coaches, so if it's a decision between recruiting and my team, it's definitely my team." Hansen visited Michigan over the summer for its annual The Big House BBQ and notched an offer before leav- ing campus. U-M has already estab- lished itself as a major player in his re- cruitment, and he is looking forward to making his way back to Ann Arbor for the Ohio State game Nov. 30. "I love Michigan," Hansen said. "I got to go up there in the summer. [Michigan defensive coordinator] Don Brown is a great guy and a good re- cruiter. I know that atmosphere against Ohio State is going to be crazy, so I'm going to love to go up there for that." Hansen has a strong relationship with Brown, who serves as his area recruiter and is a fellow Massachu- setts native. Both Brown and Michi- gan tight ends coach Sherrone Moore have been in contact over the last sev- eral weeks and have made their pitch. "Don Brown is a Boston guy," Han- sen said. "I got to see him at some games around here prior to my re- cruitment. I talked to him over the summer and got to know him. "… I'm interested in business, and Don Brown told me that they have a top-five business school in the coun- try. That's definitely something that I'm considering. Coach Moore is a great guy. He talked to me about family, faith and football — the three F's. I thought that was pretty cool. It's really similar to how I keep my life, so it's a good match." The 6-5, 222-pound Hansen is ranked as the No. 3 tight end and No. 114 over- all prospect in the country by Rivals. — EJ Holland Underrated Texas Offensive Tackle Is High On The Wolverines Coveted Massachusetts Tight End And U-M Are A 'Good Match' ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Episcopal H.S.
