www.BLUEANDGOLD.com NOV. 30, 2019 9 UNDER THE DOME 2 Quarterbacks ever for the Fighting Irish who have tossed a mini- mum of four touchdown passes five times: current senior IAN BOOK, who achieved it in back-to-back contests versus Duke (four) and Navy (five) prior to last week's game versus Boston College, joined 2003-06 starting quarterback Brady Quinn, who accomplished it seven times, in this category. In 1942, future Heisman Trophy winner Angelo Bertelli be- came the first Notre Dame signal-caller to throw four touch- down passes in a game during a 27-0 win versus Stanford, and Daryle Lamonica was the next 20 years later in 1962 with a 43-22 win versus Pitt. Steve Beuerlein was the third to do so 22 years later during a 38-37 victory at USC in 1986. In the last 25 years, beginning with Ron Powlus in 1994 and continuing with Book, 10 different Irish quarterbacks have had a four-touchdown passing game. 8 Receivers in Notre Dame history who caught at least 400 yards worth of passes three consecutive seasons, with senior Chase Claypool becoming the most recent. His seven predecessors to achieve the feat — including bowl games — were Jim Seymour (1966-68), Thom Gate- wood (1969-71), Lake Dawson (1991-93), Der- rick Mayes (1993-95), Malcolm Johnson (1996- 98), Rhema McKnight 2003-04 and 2006) and Michael Floyd (2008-11), who is the lone figure to achieve the feat all four seasons. 9 Media outlets made Notre Dame bowl projections Nov. 18 based on tie-ins — and eight of them had head coach Brian Kelly's team heading to the Camping World Bowl that will be played Dec. 28 at noon in Orlando, Fla., versus the third pick from the Big 12, which could be either Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State or Texas. • Three of the out- lets — CBS Sports, C o l l e g e F o o t - b a l l N ew s a n d Bleacher Report — project Notre Dame will face Texas. • Three others — ESPN, Athlon Sports and The Athletic — have Iowa State as the Fighting Irish opponent. • Watch Stadium and a second of two ESPN charts have Okla- homa State as Notre Dame's foe. • The lone outlier was Sporting News, which has Notre Dame playing in the NY6 Goodyear Cotton Bowl versus Memphis. Under current bowl contract obligations, it is the Cotton Bowl's turn to host one of the Group of Five teams in a major bowl. The Cotton Bowl has the same date (Dec. 28) and kickoff time (shortly after 12 p.m.) as the Camping World Bowl. The Fighting Irish are 5-3 all time in the Cotton Bowl, most recently the College Football Playoff loss to Clemson last year. The Camping World Bowl was previously known as Champs Sports Bowl, where Notre Dame lost 18-14 to Florida State in 2011. 11 Fouls per game committed by Notre Dame men's basketball during its 4-1 start this year, which places it third nationally. In the last decade, Notre Dame has finished out of the top 10 in fewest personal fouls per game just twice (11th in 2010-11, 15th in 2013-14) — and led the country in the category in 2011- 12, 2015-16 and 2018-19. 199-73-1 Record for Notre Dame at home during the 273-game sellout streak that began at the start of the 1974 season and ended this month with the 52-20 victory versus Navy Nov. 16. The lone tie occurred versus Michigan in 1992 (17-17). Per Notre Dame's football media relations office, the Irish outscored their opponents 8,181-4,901 (average score of 29.97 to 17.95) in front of 19,160,118 spectators. 234 Straight weeks Notre Dame women's basketball had been ranked in the As- sociated Press poll — dating back to March 2007 — until this Nov. 18, when it fell to the "also receiving votes" category at No. 26 following back-to-back losses at home to Tennessee and Michigan State to drop to 2-2. Only Connecticut and Baylor have had longer active streaks. ✦ BY THE NUMBERS PHOTO BY ANDRIS VISOCKIS
