Back In The Swim Of Things The Wolfpack Men's Swimming And Diving Team Recorded Its Highest NCAA Finish Since 1978-79 S By Ryan Tice econd-year men's swimming and diving coach Braden Holloway is just being honest when he says he didn't expect the Wolfpack to achieve this much this fast. After placing fifth in the ACC during Holloway's debut campaign, the Pack duplicated that finish the second time around, but moved up to just 100 points out of second place, whereas the team finished 200 points be- hind the fourth-place squad last year. If that wasn't enough tangible progress, the Pack placed 15th at the NCAA Championships — the best finish for any ACC squad this year and the school's best national placement since 1978-79 (11th). Holloway notes the rebuilding process has been fast-tracked to success, thanks to his coaching staff. In particular, the men's team laid a solid foundation in 2012 and continued to improve on it this season. "I think the guys and the coaches were able to work as a unit pretty well," he said. "Obviously, some things fell our way throughout it, but when doors opened, we walked through them, instead of being passive and not taking initiative. If something opened up, our guys went after it and conquered it."
