The momentous day also was the final regular-season home match in the very successful careers of fourth-years Hana Tomljanovic, Maria Fuccillo and Erin Vierra. "It was hard to consider Miami a rival because they always had our number," Vierra said. "It just summed up our season and how we've had to overcome so much, and we really saw the benefits of our hard work on that day. It was the perfect way to end our season." Prior to the start of the match — which Tomljanovic, who was celebrating her 22nd birthday, clinched with a singles victory — UVa honored the winningest fourthyear class in program history. Heading into the program's fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in early May, the trio had helped the Cavaliers compile a 72-35 record (.673 winning percentage) since arriving on Grounds in the fall of 2009. "Maria, Hana and Erin have meant a ton to our pro- gram," head coach Mark Guilbeau told VirginiaSports.com. "I couldn't be more proud of them and their accomplishments over the last four seasons. They all have grown during their time at UVa. The new student-athletes that come into the program have an opportunity to be better because of the example that Maria, Hana and Erin have set." Despite some key injuries during the 2013 campaign, the Cavaliers (17-9, 9-2 ACC) finished off their fifth straight winning season, set a school record with nine ACC wins and finished tied for second in the league standings. UVa was No. 14 in the May 2 ITA rankings and was tabbed as the No. 14 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, marking the third consecutive year it has been nationally seeded. "I chose Virginia because I wanted to be a part of a building program," Vierra said. "I saw a group of kids that were coming in that had the same goals as me and shared the same vision as [head coach Mark Guilbeau] on where the program was headed.
