Ready For More Mitch McGary And Glenn Robinson III Will Both Be Back To Enjoy A Second Surge B By John Borton atting .500 in the major leagues would make anyone a very wealthy individual. Batting .500 in the player-retention category should keep Michigan basketball in the heart of the Big Ten race come winter. The Wolverines didn't come away unscathed in the afterglow of a run to the NCAA championship game. They lost the consensus National Player of the Year in Trey Burke. They said goodbye to another hopeful early entrant into the NBA in Tim Hardaway Jr., whom some insisted completed the best backcourt in college basketball in 2012-13. The one-two sayonara punch shouldn't be underestimated. The Wolverines lost their top two scorers, top two assist men and two of their top four three-point shooters. On the other hand, it could have been much worse. Freshmen Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III enjoyed an NBA option, according to plenty of mock drafts and self-appointed experts. Their choice to return to Ann Arbor in the fall of 2013 immediately gives U-M a solid base, when combined with other key components in Michigan's NCAA Tournament run. According to head coach John Beilein, the loss is significant — but the prospects aren't exactly dim. "We're going to miss their leadership, their defense, and the points they fabricated late in the shot clock," Beilein noted, regarding Burke and Hardaway. "You look at all of our close games, and they were the best at getting their own shot off, or getting fouled late in the shot clock. There were a lot of points that were not drawn up — they were just talentbased scores. "That said, there's attrition everywhere in the country. I believe we have enough back to work with. Now, we just have to do the best we can with it."
