commitment profile outdid every other degree. It stands out. The coaching staff, Coach [Greg] Mattison, I think he's an unbelievable coach. He coached Ray Lewis at the Ravens and had the best defense every year. When he was at Florida, he had a whole lot of people go as first-round draft picks. I think he's the best for me to go to the next level." The commitment excited Michigan coaches, according to Marshall. Head coach Brady Hoke, Mattison (the defensive line coach and defensive coordinator) and southeast Michigan recruiter Fred Jackson were elated to add his talent to the 2014 class. "I went up there for a visit, and everything was going well," he said. I was like, 'The time is right to commit.' At first, I was in the room with Coach Hoke just talking, then I left him and sat in a room with Coach Mattison and Coach Jackson and my mother. I just told them that I'm ready to commit to Michigan. "They were jumping up and down, all happy, then they gave me a big hug. Just like when Coach Hoke gave me a big hug." Marshall, a 6-4, 235-pound threestar prospect, is the sixth-ranked player in the state of Michigan, according to Rivals.com. He joins the No. 2 player, Grand Rapids Christian wide receiver Drake Harris, in the class. Although he's the most recent Michigan commitment, Marshall plans to work as hard as any other in bringing in the top player, Detroit Loyola defensive end Malik McDowell. "I look forward to recruiting and telling people about Michigan," Marshall said. "The first person that I'll talk to is probably Malik McDowell. Like the coaches told me at Michigan, 'The greatest players in the state of Michigan play at Michigan,' so we've got to keep that tradition alive." With his commitment out of the way — and some recruiting of his own on deck — Marshall is ready to focus on his final year of high school ball at Southfield. The Blue Jays fell to Oak Park High School in the second round of the state playoffs last year, and although Marshall was an all-state honorable mention selection according to the Detroit Free Press and first-team All-Oakland County according to The Oakland Press, his high school career won't be complete without a deeper run toward a state title. "Winning the state championship: That's the big thing," he said. "My only goal as of right now is winning Southfield a championship." Marshall became the ninth commitment in the 2014 class and third from the state of Michigan (in addition to Harris, Detroit Country Day three-star wide receiver Maurice Ways has pledged to the Wolverines). He gives U-M a strong defensive line contingent — four-star Salt Lake City defensive tackle Bryan Mone is also in the class — but the Wolverines would like to add McDowell and the nation's No. 1 prospect, Woodbridge (Va.) defensive end Da'Shawn Hand, to the group. — Tim Sullivan
