inside michigan athletics Michigan's Top Olympic Sports Performers Baseball senior Patrick Biondi: With 15 stolen bases this season in 18 attempts, Biondi now ranks first all time at Michigan and second in Big Ten history with 103 steals in his career. The 5-9, 165-pound Woodhaven, Mich., native was hitting .300 this spring with 34 runs scored and a .390 on-base percentage through 50 games. With six steals versus Eastern Michigan April 23, the outfielder set a Big Ten single-game record. Lacrosse freshman Kyle Jackson: The Sarnia, Ont., native was one of three Wolverines named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team. Jackson led the Maize and Blue in scoring with 17 goals and tied for the team lead with nine assists. The 5-8, 159-pound midfielder registered eight multi-goal games during Michigan's second varsity season. Women's basketball senior Kate Thompson: The recent graduate joined nine other college alums on the NetScouts USA All-Star Team, competing in a tournament in China May 1-15. Thompson was an All-Big Ten second-team selection in 2013, averaging a career-high 14.3 points per game while setting a Michigan single-season record with 110 three-pointers. In the first six games of the tournament through May 10, she scored 34 points. Men's swimming and diving junior Connor Jaeger: A three-time national champion this year, winning the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle races and the 800-yard freestyle relay, Jaeger helped lead Michigan to the NCAA title, and he has been recognized as the Detroit Athletic Club's Michigan Male College Athlete of the Year. Jaeger is the third Wolverine to garner the honor, which has been awarded since 1996, joining Davis Tarwater (1996) and Kellen Russell (2012). Water polo freshman Presley Pender: The torch has officially been passed from senior Kiki Golden to Pender following the conclusion of the 2013 season. Pender notched her fourth hat trick of the season in a 7-5 loss to Princeton in the CWPA Eastern Championship April 28, ending her rookie campaign with 38 goals and 35 assists. With 73 points, she finished second on the team behind only Golden (92).
