DECEMBER 2020 THE WOLVERINE 41 By The Numbers 5 Of Michigan's 12 scholarship players are either seniors (guard Chaundee Brown Jr., forward Isaiah Livers and guard Eli Brooks) or fifth-year seniors (guard MIKE SMITH and forward Austin Davis). 6 New scholarship players are featured on U-M's 2020-21 roster, in- cluding four freshmen and two who transferred in, which means half of the Wolverines' 12 scholarship athletes are newcomers. 7-1, 255 Is freshman center Hunter Dickinson's height and weight, making him both the tallest and heaviest player on the team. Davis checks in second in both categories, at 6-10, 250. 12.1 Was Brown's points-per-game average last year as a ju- nior with the Demon Deacons. That scoring total would have been third on the Wolverines a season ago, with Livers and grad- uated guard Zavier Simpson having shared the lead at 12.9. The 6.5 rebounds Brown averaged last year, meanwhile, would have checked in second at U-M, behind only the graduated Jon Teske (6.7). 19 Wins for head coach Juwan Howard in his debut campaign, which were tied with Bill Frieder in 1980-81 for the third most of any first-year Michigan coach in program history. Brian Ellerbe (25 wins) in 1997-98 and Steve Fisher (23) in 1989-90 are the only two U-M coaches who won more games than Howard in their debut campaigns. Howard's 61.2 winning percentage ranks seventh among U-M's 17 first-year head coaches, however, with George Veenker's mark of 81.2 percent (13-3) in 1928-29 standing as the program's best. 22.8 Is how many points per game Smith averaged last year at Columbia, the sixth-highest scoring average in the nation. 95.6 Was Livers' free throw percentage last season, after he connected on 44 of his 46 shots from the charity stripe. He didn't have enough attempts to qualify for the national lead- ers in free throw success rate, but if he had, his mark would have been the best mark in the country.
