14 ■ THE WOLFPACKER TRACKING THE PACK T he Wolfpacker Podcast records at least once a week and hosts postgame reflec- tions episodes with former players and expert analysts. The show is always available to listen to on TheWolf- packer.com, Spotify, the Apple Pod- cast App and most everywhere else podcasts can be listened to. Here are some excerpts from when former NC State basketball player Scott Wood joined the show to talk Pack hoops and catch up on what he's up to these days: You're now hosting a podcast with Jeff Goodman's Field of 68 media network called Scott Wood's One Man Wolfpack. Can you tell us the backstory behind you getting into podcasting? What sparked this interest for you? "I got back home, and this is the first year that I decided I wasn't go- ing to go back overseas [to play bas- ketball]. All of a sudden I got a call, and I had no idea who it was. I took the call and it was Jeff Goodman. He told me that they were going to start The Field of 68 network. "I gave it some thought and there wasn't a lot of pressure in it, so I decided to give it a shot. So far, I've done two podcasts and I've enjoyed it. "It's just a good way to get con- tent to fans that they may not get elsewhere, from a former player interviewing a current player or the coach or another former player. It's a good way to stay involved, give some informa- tion that they may not have in some other places. I'm having fun with it and hope- fully it continues to take off." You mentioned this is your first season not going over to Europe to play ball. For those listening at home that may not have been closely following your travels, can you give us a recap of your journey in the past seven years since you gradu- ated in 2013? "I left school, did all the pre-draft stuff and didn't get drafted. I decided I wanted to go overseas, so I played in the Liga Endesa, which is arguably the top league overseas. I played three years for the same team in Spain. "Then I signed a contract with Golden State [in the NBA], did their training camp and everything. That was the first year Kevin Durant was there and they ended up winning the championship that year. Kent Lacob is still the assistant GM there, and I give him a hard time that I should probably have a ring since I got my jerseys from the team. I'm still looking for that ring from Golden State. "I finished up there and went to Turkey, Turkey to France, France to Montenegro and then finished up in Spain. I've kind of bounced all over the place, but it was a good time. It's very time consuming because I'm over there 10 months of the year and only get to come home for a two- month period. "It was a good experience for me, a good experience for my wife, to go over there, have a good time and get an experience that a lot of people don't get." You'll always be known as one of the best shooters in NC State history. Your 334 made three- point baskets rank No. 1 all time in school history. What is your as- sessment on the perimeter shoot- ing ability of this year's team? "[Senior guard] Braxton Beverly is the first one that sticks out. He's had a great career through his first three years. It's a little unfortunate on the injury aspect or he'd probably be a lot higher on that list. He just needs to be put in situations where he can kind of thrive. "To be very successful, they're going to need that guy that can spread the floor to try and get [se- nior] DJ Funderburk on the post, get [fifth-year senior guard] Devon Dan- iels in some isolation situations and not have to have another guy coming over and helping. They're going to have to find a way to utilize them. "I've always had coaches in the past where if I had a really good big guy, put me and him in some down- screen situations so it's hard for a big to step up and help because you have a big offensive player in the way. Maybe put him and DJ in some of those situations. "As far as [redshirt junior transfer guard] Thomas Allen, I haven't seen a lot of him yet. I know he was a re- ally good offensive weapon at Nebraska. "I really think they're going to need a few guys to spread the floor, especially when Braxton comes off the floor. Maybe Thomas comes in and shoots and spreads the floor for them. They're going to need that to really keep the pressure off Devon and DJ to open things up so they can't get trapped." ■ SCOTT WOOD Former NC State Basketball Player PODCAST HIGHLIGHTS Wood is the Wolfpack's all-time three-point king with 334 makes from behind the arc.
