MAY/JUNE 2021 ■ 11 TRACKING THE PACK Tyler McDonough Sophomore center fielder Tyler McDonough is completing his third season with NC State baseball in 2021. The 5-10, 180-pounder had a .317 batting average and .410 on-base percentage as of April 20, which ranked second and third, respectively, on the team. After leading the Pack and all fresh- m e n i n t h e ACC with 80 hits in 2019, McDonough earned second-team All- ACC honors. He also was honored on the ACC All-Freshman squad that season. B a s e b a l l A m e r i ca, Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball also all named him to their respective Freshman All-Amer- ica units. He then started all 17 games in the pandemic- shortened campaign last spring, leading the Pack with 23 hits and ranking second with a .354 batting average. McDonough played almost every position on de- fense for Moeller High in his hometown of Liberty Township, Ohio, but spent most of his time playing catcher in high school. He has played a number of positions at NC State, primarily switching between second base and center field in college. Favorite movie: "The 'Rocky' series." Major: "Sports management." Favorite sport to watch other than baseball: "Football." An athlete you look up to: "Ken Griffey Jr." Favorite class so far at NC State: "Psychology." Favorite restaurant around campus: "Sammy's Tap and Grill." Favorite memory from being on the baseball team: "Sweeping UNC this season." What do you see yourself doing once your play- ing career is over: "I could see myself getting into coaching or strength training. My brother is a physical trainer, so maybe I'll work with him."
