CRAVONT CHARLESTON
Track & Field
Former Wolfpack two-sport standout and NFL wide receiver Alvis Whitted remains the fastest man ever at NC
State, but fifth-year senior Cravont Charleston is making a run at him.
On the final day of the Raleigh Relays held March 25-27 at NC State's Paul Derr Track and the Dail Soccer
Field/Track Complex, Charleston sprinted into the record books by setting a meet and facility record by run-
ning the 100 meters in 10.10 seconds.
Whitted's 10.02-second dash in 1996 is the only mark in school history that is faster than what Charleston ran.
Charleston's previous career best in the race had been 10.13 seconds, which he recorded in 2019.
The Charlotte native also won the 200-meter dash at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 20.37 seconds, which
at the time was the fastest mark in the NCAA, and like the 100 were new bests for the meet and track. It is the
fifth-fastest time in school history.
Charleston was a second-team All-American in the 100-meter dash in 2019, and he won the ACC titles in both
the 100 and 200 in 2017. Charleston also has won an individual 60-meter indoor gold at the 2020 conference
meet, the same race he was a second-team All-American in during the 2019 campaign and holds the NC State
record for fastest time (6.54 seconds).
