22-tackle performance against Jacksonville High and did not let up. Culler had doubledigit tackles in all of Laney's contests last fall, finishing the season with 139 hits (103 solo). He also had 14 tackles for loss and a sack. North Carolina and East Carolina also offered Culler a scholarship. He chose NCSU over UNC May 10. Rivals.com rates Culler as a three-star recruit and the No. 28 player in the state. At the Shrine Bowl combine held at Washington (N.C.) High, Culler checked in at 6-6 (with shoes on) and 224 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.75 seconds and the shuttle in 4.53 seconds. He had a nine-foot standing broad jump and did 25 reps at 185 pounds on the bench press. Athlete Jefferie Gibson Hope Mills (N.C.) Gray's Creek Gibson was being pulled back and forth between his two finalists — Clemson and NC State. A visit to NCSU June 7 settled him towards the Wolfpack. "That made me feel at home," Gibson said. "I felt good that they had a plan for me already to come in and help them out to make them a better team. And it's close to home. It's just a perfect fit." Rivals.com rates Gibson (6-3, 190) as a three-star prospect, the No. 18 player in North Carolina and the No. 33 athlete in the country. He could play receiver or safety in college, but he will start out on offense at NC State. As a junior, Gibson had 69 tackles and four interceptions, returning two for touchdowns. He also ran back a kickoff for a score. He caught five passes for 70 yards and a score in Gray's Creek's rush-heavy, triple-option offensive attack. East Carolina and North Carolina had also offered. Defensive tackle B.J. Hill Oakboro (N.C.) West Stanly One likely would've bet that when a lifelong North Carolina fan, who also happened to be neighbors with former star UNC linebacker Quan Sturdivant, got an offer from the Heels that his recruitment would be over. Indeed, when Hill picked up an offer from UNC June 8 and then set an announcement date for five days later, a lot of people assumed he was UNC bound. Instead, Hill had actually decided that he was taking the offer he got a day before UNC — NC State.
