N By Matt Carter C State picked up a pair of verbal commitments in April in wide receiver Bo Hines and tight end Garrett Bradbury from Charlotte Christian. Three more pledges came in May, but that was just a warm-up for the waves of commits that came in June. The commits started as a trickle, when four-star linebacker Germaine Pratt of High Point (N.C.) Central committed June 6. Within six days, five more had joined Pratt. Then June 20, linebacker/safety Dexter Wright of Wilson (N.C.) Hunt announced he was going to State. Two days later, four more committed. Then three more just two more days after that, and yet one more the following day. By July 1, NC State had 22 commitments after starting June with five. Here is a breakdown of the newest football commits since April. Center Tony Adams Charlotte Independence The 6-1, 310-pound Adams came to NC State's camp June 7 essentially auditioning for the offer the Pack was planning to give out to a center prospect. After seeing Adams, NC State knew they had found their man. He was offered the following morning and committed June 10. He will join incoming corner Jack Tocho in giving NCSU an Independence alum in back-to-back classes. "He's a great friend of mine," Adams noted. "I feel like being at State together will be perfect." NC State was Adams' first offer. He is a Frenzied Action NC State Football Recruiting Explodes In June native of Boston who moved to Charlotte two years ago. His father Carl Adams is a former wrestler at Iowa State and head wrestling coach at Boston University. Rivals.com rates Adams, who began playing offensive line just last year, as a three-star prospect and labeled him the second-best offensive lineman at the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour stop in Charlotte. Defensive end Bradley Chubb Powder Springs (Ga.) Hillgrove Chubb was part of a wave of defensive end commits June 24. Three of them committed to the Pack in a matter of hours on that day. Rivals.com rates the 6‑3, 220-pound Chubb as a three-star prospect and the No. 65 recruit from the state of Georgia. Chubb picked NCSU over offers from Duke, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Mississippi State, Wake Forest and West Virginia. His older brother Brandon Chubb is a redshirt sophomore linebacker for Wake. ■ 2014 Commitments Name Tony Adams Garrett Bradbury Bradley Chubb A.J. Cole Cole Cook Coult Culler Jefferie Gibson B.J. Woodward Academy Cole was a 6-4, 215-pound starting tight end at Woodward Academy as a junior. They did not have a need for a punter last season. Cole, though, proved this spring and summer he has a future kicking the football. Cole has a background playing soccer, and in December he entered a showcase kicking camp held by famed kicking guru Jamie Kohl. At the camp, Mike McCabe of One On One Kicking noticed Cole and saw some potential. He convinced Cole to work out with him, and the results have paid off. He blossomed into the third best punter in the 2014 class according to Kohl. Cole excelled at NC State's camp June 17. There is a possibility he could greyshirt — sign with the Pack in February, but delay enrollment until the following spring and count towards the 2015 class. Tight end Cole Cook Carrollton (Ga.) High The 6-5, 230-pound Cook is rated by Rivals.com as a three-star recruit, the No. 26 tight end in the country and the No. 40 prospect from the state of Georgia. Despite only catching 12 passes in a run-dominated offense last season, Cook had accumulated an impressive offer list that also included Boston College, Cincinnati, Florida State, Illinois, Maryland, Mississippi State and UCF, among others. NC State, though, was the first school to offer Cook. He unofficially visited Raleigh in April and then came back June 22 to make his verbal commitment official. Linebacker Coult Culler Wilmington (N.C.) Laney Culler is the definition of a tackling machine. He started his junior season with a 136 ■ the wolfpacker 136-143.FB Commitments.indd 136 7/2/13 9:56 AM
