DECEMBER 2021 THE WOLVERINE 31   MICHIGAN FOOTBALL for a running back. "I'm just so fired up that he was a big part of this game plan and that I was able to get the ball to him." The 170 yards receiving and 10 catches were both new standards for a U-M back, but it came as no surprise to head coach Jim Harbaugh. "Really, all season we've known about his ability to catch the ball and run routes," he said. "It started back in spring practice after he came off his surgery on his thumb. He was in a cast for like the first three weeks and was averaging like seven catches a day, to the point where he was even an example for everybody. This guy is catching, not dropping anything, and he's wearing a hard cast on his hand." Edwards and freshman quarterback J.J. McCarthy, along with frosh wide receiver Andrel Anthony, have been working in the wee hours of the night and early morning after returning from road trips. Edwards was trying to get on the field and make a Edwards' 10 catches and 170 receiving yards in a 59-18 win at Maryland Nov. 20 set school records for a running back, while his receiv- ing yards were a single-game high for any Wolverine this year.
