DECEMBER 2021 THE WOLVERINE 57 BY CHRIS BALAS M ichigan's Juwan Howard and his team are off to a slower-than-ex- pected start on the court, but the head coach continues to tear it up on the re- cruiting trail. He and his staff officially signed a four-man class from the 2022 group, which 247Sports ranked No. 6 nationally. In wing Jett Howard, power forward Tarris Reed Jr., point guard Dug Mc- Daniel and combo forward Gregg Glenn III, Howard adds versatility, plenty of length and scoring to his future lineup. More than anything, he was looking for kids who could really play, but also fit the culture they're building. "We have continued to talk about family, character, culture and what it takes to play Michigan basketball," Howard said. "We feel blessed to bring in four young men who not only buy into what we are doing, but bring a pos- itivity and energy that will no doubt be an influence on and off the court, in the community and especially in the class- room. "They each have strong work ethics and bring something unique to the table — size, skill, vision, etc. However, it's their willingness to learn and become great that will make them great Michi- gan men." The cornerstone of the class, How- ard's son Jett, seemed destined to be a Wolverine once his father took the job three years ago. His brother, Jace, is a sophomore on the team, and Jett's ad- dition reunites the family in Ann Arbor. The coach had to sweat it out a bit af- ter his son took enjoyable visits to North Carolina State and Tennessee, but the family ties brought him home. The Mi- ami native started his high school ca- reer at University School, helping lead the Sharks to two consecutive Class 5A State titles before he transferred to Bra- denton (Fla.) IMG Academy. He was his team's second-leading scorer as a sophomore with 15.6 points and 3.7 assists per game, earning sec- ond-team all-county honors. Howard teamed with current U-M forward Moussa Diabate during his junior season at IMG, the two leading the team to a 21-3 mark.
