58 THE WOLVERINE DECEMBER 2021   BASKETBALL RECRUITING ing 44.4 percent from beyond the arc at IMG. He also played on the Nike EYBL circuit with Nightrydas Elite and aver- aged 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists this summer. Coaching both of his sons will be a dream come true for the Michigan coach. "We have talked already about many special moments Jenine and I have had in our lives," Howard said. "When Jett committed, it was another one of those memorable moments for our family. We really let Jett choose his own path during the entire process. I know we worked our tails off to show him what he could accomplish here in Ann Abor, and in the end, I truly didn't know what he was go- ing to do until he came and talked to me. "I can tell you, I am very happy with his choice. So is his mom. Jett continues to work hard to improve his overall skill set to become a very diverse all-around player. We are hoping he will come in and be able to make an impact like we know he can." The 6-7 Howard is On3.com's No. 30 player nationally and No. 7 small for- ward. Reed, a St. Louis native, was thought to be leaning toward Ohio State before a summer visit changed his mind. He watched Howard coach his big men with a hands-on approach that impressed him and his family. In the end, he loved ev- erything about Ann Arbor. The 6-8 standout averaged 14.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.2 blocks as a sophomore at St. Louis Chaminade before a breakout junior season. He av- eraged a double-double, 21.8 points and 11.5 rebounds, and moved up dramati- cally in the rankings with a great summer on the AAU circuit. His play last season helped Chaminade to a third-place finish at the Missouri Class 6 Finals and earned him recognition as the Post-Dispatch All-Metro Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Reed transferred to Link Academy in Branson, Mo., this year, where he is set to play his final prep season. He played with the MoKan Elite AAU program and averaged 15.4 points and 6.9 rebounds in 2021. On3 lists Reed as a four-star pros- pect, and the nation's No. 67 overall re- cruit and No. 13 power forward. He and Glenn will be able to play dif- ferent positions on the floor, some- thing Howard loves in his frontcourt players. "Versatility is something we are al- ways looking for here. Tarris and Gregg fit that mold," Howard said. "Tarris has a big, strong frame that will make him hard to guard, while Gregg can play in- side and out. "Both give us the opportunity to al- low them to make an impact. Not only are they constantly in the gym work- ing to improve their games, but they are also working to get stronger so they can come in and contribute right away. We love that." Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Calvary Chris- tian's Glenn was named to the Max- Preps Freshman All-America third team after averaging 14.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He earned All-Broward County second-team honors the fol- lowing year after guiding Calvary to the district semifinals. He posted 12.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in the 2021 sea- son, helping the Warriors to a 17-7 record and a Class 3A state championship. Glenn has also been part of the USA Basketball program, playing with the U16 National Team that won the gold medal in Brazil during the 2019 FIBA Americas Championship. He played with fellow signee Howard with Nike EYBL's Nightrydas Elite on the AAU cir- cuit, as well, so there's familiarity there. The 6-7 forward is a top-100 prospect nationally according to 247Sports (No. 81) and Rivals (No. 77). Finally, the 5-11 McDaniel is a two- sport standout who would have been a high-major football recruit had he gone that route. He enjoyed a standout junior season, averaging a double-double with 22.0 points and 10.0 assists in an 11-game season shortened by COVID-19. He and his team fell to Hyattsville (Md.) De- Matha in a dramatic 109-107 loss in the Washington Catholic Athletic Confer- ence (WCAC) championship game. "No one works harder than Dug. He has a toughness about him that really makes him a factor," Howard said. "Be- ing grounded as an individual is what we like the most. His demeanor on and off the court just makes everyone around him better." McDaniel was the Wolverines' first 2022 commitment. He enters his final year at St. Paul VI Catholic in Fairfax, Va., playing in the same conference that current Wolverines Hunter Dick- Dug McDaniel, 5-11, 167-pounds, is listed by the On3 Consensus rankings, which evenly weigh all four major recruiting services, as the No. 72 overall recruit and No. 14 point guard in the class of 2022.
