22 ■ THE WOLFPACKER "I can't wait," NC State baseball head coach Elliott Avent exclaimed. "This has been a dream of not only mine, but every former player that's played here." The conversation for this project has been ongoing for quite some time, and prior to NC State's memorable run to Omaha last season. NC State director of athletics Boo Corrigan and Wolfpack Club executive director Ben Broussard have long identified the significant need for upgrades within Doak Field at Dail Park. The Wolfpack's success on the dia- mond in its run to the College World Se- ries last year certainly presented an op- portunity to move this project forward and bring a greater appetite for support. The project has received an "ex- ceptionally positive" response noted Broussard, with several donors stepping up to take leadership roles in the fund- raising with significant contributions. "I think that run in Omaha added some fuel to the fire," Broussard said. "There are some people who may not have been interested in baseball, but are now following the team because of what happened. "That being said, for this project to be the success that it can be, we will need Wolfpack Nation to step up and support the project with philanthropic donations." Corrigan wants to capitalize on the team's success to improve its facilities. "When you have a historic venue like Doak, you have an opportunity to expand on that," Corrigan said in a video release of the project. "We want to make it better, to make it more special. That's the op- portunity that we saw, and that's the op- portunity that we are going to seize upon." A new indoor batting cage and pitching lab will provide NC State baseball players more tools to enhance their games.
