C O M Boosting the team's offensive fire- power with the addition of high-scoring transfer guards Camren Wynter (Drexel) and Andrew Funk (Bucknell), along with a five-player recruiting class that is long on shooting skill, the Nittany Lions are looking to jell quickly. With the upcoming campaign set to begin Nov. 7 against Winthrop, Shrews- berry is optimistic about what Penn State can accomplish. "I'm happy with our group," he said. "We're going to fight every single night. We're going to make it as hard as pos- sible. We're going to do what we can each and every day to become one of the best teams in the Big Ten." Backcourt In Pickett, Penn State expects to have one of its best decision-makers running the show on both ends of the floor. Ar- riving from Siena ahead of the 2021-22 season, he started every game and fin- ished tops on the stat sheet in scoring (13.3 points per game), assists, steals and minutes. In the process, he built on a career performance that was already dis- tinguished from his time at Siena. He heads into his super senior season hav- ing eclipsed 1,500 career points and has also amassed more than 500 rebounds and 500 assists. Said Shrewsberry, "I think he's one of the best guards in the Big Ten Confer- ence." Pickett won't be alone in the effort. Wynter brings more than 1,600 points with him from his time with Drexel and is likely to pair with his fellow senior in the backcourt. A crafty scorer and defender with a lengthy list of honors in the Colonial Athletic Association, Wynter left the Dragons program ranked sixth all-time in scoring, third in assists and eighth in steals. Funk, meanwhile, produced 1,230 points, 346 rebounds and 195 assists in his four-year career at Bucknell. He led the Bison in scoring as a senior last year with 17.6 points per game but, sur- rounded by capable scorers, is likely to have his load lightened in a Nittany Lion uniform. 2022-23 Men's Basketball Roster No. Name Pos. The Hill School (Pottstown, Pa.)
