W W W . B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . C O M MEN'S BASKETBALL M icah Shrewsberry stood at the podium at Big Ten Basketball Media Days in mid-October hoping to send a message. Penn State, just one offseason removed from the coach's 14-17 debut in 2021-22, had de- veloped a reputation around the league that he wanted to address. "People talk about how we play, talk about our pace," Shrewsberry said. "But, it was really hard to score on us." Big Ten competitors were deeply aware of that fact. The Nittany Lions had allowed just 65.0 points per game, finishing the season atop the league's chart for defensive proficiency. They were fourth in defensive field goal percentage, allowing opponents to make 41.6 percent of their shots. Paced by forward Seth Lundy, transfer guard Jalen Pickett and stalwart big man John Harrar, Penn State made opponents work for baskets. Harrar has since exited, but Lundy and Pickett are back for their senior sea- sons, and the Nittany Lions intend to maintain that hard-nosed mentality. If there's a difference this year, it's that they also intend to score. "We're still going to play the same exact way. We're still going to challenge people defensively and make it as hard as possible," Shrewsberry said. "But I think we'll be able to score the ball a little bit better."
