DECEMBER 2022 3 Dear Cavalier Fans, As we approach the final weeks of the year, our staff is thankful for the thousands of generous do- nors who loyally contribute each year to support our coaches and student-athletes. This generosity is vi- tal to the overall success of each of our 27 sports. This year, we started with an aggressive Annual Fund goal of $20 million and we are currently on track to reach it, provided we have a strong donor response at the end of the year. Additionally, thanks to donor support, we were able to break ground on the Football Operations Center in June, allowing us to turn our attention to completing the fundraising for the Olympic Sports Center and the renovation of the McCue Center. This next phase of the Master Plan will provide homes for men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's track & field/cross country, and field hockey, which are still operat- ing in temporary facilities. Moving each of the programs into new and perma- nent facilities is vitally important to their success. Our newest fundraising initiative is the Cavalier Academic Achievement Fund which will support awards for each of our student-athletes who achieve specific academic benchmarks in the Pathways Program. This program is de- signed to further prepare our student-athletes for their future careers and will require $1.9 million annually to fund these awards. We are grateful for many of our donors who have already made a commitment to help us meet this an- nual fundraising need. Not only do these awards support the academic mis- sion of the University, they are also critical to the overall recruiting efforts of each of our sports. If you are in a position to make a one-time or multi-year commitment to assist us in this effort, we would be grateful for your support. Please visit our website or call our office for more information. Throughout this year we have enjoyed watching our student-athletes com- pete and hosting events with many donors and fans. In September, we were honored to celebrate hundreds of donors who reached 40 or 50 consecutive years of contributing to Virginia Athletics. Thank you for making Virginia Athlet- ics one of the very best athletics programs in the country. We wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday season. Best regards, Dirk P.
