BANNER DAY
The top-ranked Virginia women's swimming and diving team had
a lot to celebrate in mid-October. Prior to their season-opening win
vs. No. 3 Florida, the Hoos unveiled their 2022 NCAA championship
banner at the Aquatics and Fitness Center.
UVA then dispatched the Gators by a score of 180-115. Fourth-year
Kate Douglass set the pool record in the 100-yard freestyle, while
Gretchen Walsh posted a new facility record for the 100-yard but-
terfly. That same night those two joined their teammates at a special
ceremony on Grounds to receive their NCAA championships rings.
The UVA women are the two-time defending national champions,
after also capturing the title in 2021.
