Based in San Diego, she is a tireless, passionate advocate for chil- dren, and widely recognized for her phil- anthropic work to help children in the ar- eas of grief, family addiction and suicide. INSPIRATION AWARD Alex Montoya '96 Montoya's speaking and writing pro- vides motivational, educational, and in- spiring messages and support to immi- grants, people with disabilities, and those who support them with equity and justice. For 10 years, he served as director of Latino affairs for the San Diego Padres. TRAILBLAZER AWARD Dr. Carrie Hastings '98 Hastings' pioneering work in sports psychology has helped individuals and organizations from youth to pros. A for- mer Notre Dame track and field captain, she specializes in sports psychology, neuropsychological testing and indi- vidual therapy. Dr. Hastings is currently the team psychologist for the Los Angeles Rams. LEADERSHIP AWARD Kory Minor '99 Coming from Bishop Amat High School in La Puente, Calif., Minor ful- filled a childhood dream by attending Notre Dame and becoming an outstand- ing Irish linebacker and team captain. He serves as a Los Angeles area trainer for the Play Like a Champion Today Ed- ucational Series, while coaching high school football and operating a training and development business. COURAGE AWARD Joey Getherall '01 Also from Bishop Amat, Getherall was a wide receiver and one of the best and most fearless punt returners in Irish history. Since 2005, he has been an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, cur- rently as a K-9 handler in a bomb detec- tion unit responsible for protecting every- thing from LAX Airport to the Oscars. ✦ Jim Lefebvre is an award-winning Notre Dame author and leads the Knute Rockne Memorial Society.
