Brady finished 37th overall with a 24:01.5, while graduate Nick Foster logged a 24:15.3 to finish 73rd. Sophomore Luke Venhuizen was U-M's other top-100 performer, finishing 100th with a 24:22.0. Next up was a trip to Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich., for the EMU Fall Classic on Oct. 20. Then, it's on to the Big Ten Championships Oct. 27 and the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 10, both in Madison, Wis. Women's Cross Country Michigan finished eighth among 24 teams at the XC23 Pre-Nationals at Pan- orama Farms in Charlottesville, Va. on Oct. 14, totaling 326 points. Graduate Kayla Windemuller paced the Wolverines with a 19th-place finish and a 6K time of 20:23.1. Classmate Samantha Saenz finished in 30th with a 20:42.0, followed by junior Samantha Hastie in 64th at 21:11.1. Michigan headed to the EMU Fall Classic in Dexter next on Oct. 20, followed by the Big Ten Championships Oct. 27 and the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Nov. 10, both of which will take place in Madison, Wis. Men's Soccer Michigan went into a showdown with No. 6 Notre Dame on Oct. 17 riding a four-game unbeaten streak. After defeating Rutgers 3-2 on Sept. 22, the Wolver- ines reeled off a streak of ties: 0-0 at Indiana Sept. 26, 1-1 versus Wisconsin Oct. 1, 0-0 at Ohio State Oct. 6 and 0-0 versus No. 19 Michigan State Oct. 10. Hoping to remain unbeaten at home (2-0-4 coming into the game), the Wol- verines battled the Irish to a stalemate for the first 44 minutes and 44 seconds. However, Notre Dame managed to slip one past the Michigan defenders with 16 seconds left on the clock to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Even though the Wol- verines continued to threaten, the Irish took command with an early second-half goal and went on to win by a 3-0 score. With this loss to a top-10 foe, Michigan's record fell to 2-4-7 overall on the season. Three games remain in the 2023 regular season with a trip to Penn State on Oct. 22, followed by home games with Cleveland State (Oct. 25) and Northwest- ern (Oct. 29) to close out the campaign. Women's Soccer The Wolverines (7-5-3) missed a chance at a ranked conference win on Oct. 15 at Indiana, falling to the No. 25 Hoosiers by a 1-0 margin. U-M held an advantage in shots (15-12) and corner kicks (7-5) in the game but could not capitalize on its chances throughout the contest. Senior Sammi Woods had 4 shots to lead the team, and two quality chances in the first half of play. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, Indiana was able to get on the board in the 61st minute thanks to a penalty-kick goal, which proved to be the only tally of the day. U-M closes out its home season on Oct. 19 with a showdown against Iowa, followed by the regular-season finale at Ohio State on Oct. 22. Volleyball Heading into the late stages of the regular season, U-M sits at 3-14 (1-7 in the Big Ten) after a three-set loss to Indiana (25-10, 25-20, 25-12) on Oct. 14 in Bloomington. Junior Jacque Boney led the team with 10 kills and hit .389 on the night, while freshman Morgan Burke had 18 assists and led the team in that category for the second time in her young career. It's been a rough go this year for first-year head coach Erin Virtue and company, but Michigan has also played in one of the nation's toughest schedules. As of Oct. 17, U-M's opponents were a combined 186-109. Next up for the team was a trip to East Lansing for a matchup with rival Michi- gan State on Oct. 18, followed by a road date against Northwestern on Oct. 21. The team returned to action at the Everett Buick GMC Classic in Little Rock, Ark., taking fourth place out of 15 schools with a 5-under 283, led by junior Hunter Thomson's runner-up finish (minus 9, 207). Other standouts included fifth-year Hailey Borja, who tied for 24th and had her third straight top-25 finish of the fall season after shooting a 221, along with freshman Sidney Yermish and sophomore Lauren Sung, who tied for 36th in the event.
