And then, some- time after 9 o'clock tonight, half the teams in the country that have played will be dev- astated, half the fans will be devastated. And then you go back to work again tomorrow." — Associate and interim head basketball coach PHIL MARTELLI Nov. 6, before the opening night of the sport's season Macy Brown is a different type of kid. She's from a basketball fam- ily. Her mom's a coach, her dad's a Michigan man and they bleed maize and blue in their house. She is an incredible, incredible kid. I told her mother through the whole recruiting pro- cess that there are tremendous basketball players that have come through our program, and there are kids that really just have this pull to them. They just have great chemistry and a great vibe. There's something about them that draws people to them, that they're just phenomenal people to have in your program. Macy is one of those, and to say that about a freshman is pretty special." — Women's basketball head coach Kim Barnes Arico on freshman guard Macy Brown, a four-star recruit per ESPN.com and the 2023 Michigan Miss Basketball The team is prepared to play 12 o'clock kickoffs, 3:30, 7:30, 9, whatever it is. It's a team that understands and prepares, whatever the situation. It's not always going to be 72 and zero humidity either. It could be cold, could be wet, could be hot. They don't have to have everything set perfectly. They're like field corn as opposed to being a houseplant. Nothing against houseplants. They have their function. They can be beautiful in the home. They can bring great beauty and value to a home. But the field corn: Just drop a seed in a crack of a sidewalk, and it'll burrow down and come up with any energy that it can find and then rise up in a stalk-like fashion and just start producing. I would say that's what our team is more like." — Head football coach JIM HARBAUGH My energy was already sky-high, but then we got a visit from the 'Nature Boy,' Ric Flair, a very close friend. It just brought the enthusiasm to a new level." — Head coach Jim Harbaugh at his Nov. 6 press conference Stalwarts, sav- age warriors … go ahead and question them on why they're good, how they got good. It's practically a priceless gift to get to where we want to go." — Head coach Jim Harbaugh on outsiders questioning his team's accomplishments amid the investigation into alleged il- legal off-campus, in-person scouting of future opponents in the same season 5 Consecutive Big Ten games with 40 or more points scored, a Michigan football program record (Ne- braska, 45; Minnesota, 52; Indiana, 52; Michigan State, 49; Purdue, 41). 13 Points for Purdue against Michi- gan in a 41-13 Wolverines win Nov. 4, snapping U-M's streak of eight straight contests holding opponents to 10 points or fewer. Michigan was the first team in the AP poll era (since 1936) to hold that mark defen- sively while scoring at least 30 points in every tilt. 21 Straight home victories for Michigan football, dating back to the beginning of the 2021 season, including a 6-0 mark this season. The Wolverines will play just one more game at The Big House this year — Nov. 25 versus rival Ohio State. U-M hasn't lost a home game with a full-capacity crowd since a 56-27 setback to the Buckeyes Nov. 30, 2019, more than 1,400 days ago. U-M went 0-3 in Ann Arbor during the 2020 COVID season, in front of minimal spectators. ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS 16 THE WOLVERINE ❱ DECEMBER 2023
