44 THE WOLVERINE ❱ DECEMBER 2023 BY ZACH LIBBY I n Week 8 of the regular season, Cin- cinnati Archbishop Moeller run- ning back and Michigan commit Jor- dan Marshall suffered a grade II high ankle sprain. It forced him to miss two straight games, including the first round of the playoffs. M a rs h a l l i s s t i l l b u i l d i n g b a c k strength in the ankle, but the goal is to keep playing for as long as Archbishop Moeller is in the postseason. Marshall returned for a second-round win over rival Cincinnati St. Xavier, compiling 127 yards and 1 touchdown on 23 carries. "It was great to be out there with my teammates," Marshall told The Wolver- ine. "I didn't think I was going to get to play with those guys again. It was a blessing to get out there and be with those dudes." Even though he only missed two games, Marshall learned some life lessons. "I didn't know back in the [St. Ed- ward] game if that was going to be my last game," he said. "In those games af- terward, you really learn to take all of the moments in. "That's what I said in my pregame speech to the guys. It was the key mes- sage — to play like it could be the last time ever. You never know when it is. Also, to enjoy it because you only get this once." Prior to the win, Marshall received text messages from Blake Corum, Don- ovan Edwards, the rest of Michigan's running back unit and assistant coach Mike Hart. Their words of wisdom helped him stay positive throughout the week. "We are really close," said Marshall. On3 ranks Marshall as the No. 2 running back and No. 36 overall player in the country as well as the second-best player in Ohio. Through 10 games this season, Marshall has rushed 187 times for 1,236 yards and 14 touchdowns.
