JANUARY 2024 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 13 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Freshman guard Macy Brown is already mak- ing an impact early in her first collegiate season, averaging 2.1 points, 1.4 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game in seven appearances. The highly touted recruit out of East Grand Rap- ids (Mich.) High came to U-M with a lot of fan- fare, after averaging 25 points per game as a senior. Here are some things about Brown that you may not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From East Grand Rap- ids, Mich.: "Having a strong sense of community. Everyone knows each other, and it's nice having people I know wherever I go." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "Stray Hen Cafe." Best Meal She Can Cook By Herself: "When I'm home, I like to cook chicken and rice with pesto." Favorite Professional Athlete: "I like [Los An- geles Lakers forward] LeBron James. I grew up watching him. I like everything he does outside of basketball, as well. I just think he's really cool." Sport She Enjoys Playing Besides Basketball: "I enjoy playing tennis and pickleball. I play pickleball with my family. Growing up, I played soccer until I got into high school. I played travel soccer for a club, and that's what I mostly enjoyed." Favorite Television Show: "'Modern Family.' I like to be able to turn on the TV and watch any episode." Favorite Movie: "'Just Go With It' with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler." Why She Chose Michigan: "The coaching staff and the team. I also liked how close it was to home. And whenever I visited, there was a fam- ily atmosphere, and you could feel it. Also, the intensity of practice — that was my favorite thing coming here. You could feel the energy and that everyone loves it, but they also love each other and are all bought in." What She Hopes To Do After Basketball: "I would love to work for a big company like Nike or Gatorade with other athletes in marketing. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go into sports man- agement as a major. I definitely want to stay in sports." Favorite Memory At Michigan: " The [U-M women's basketball] foreign trip to Italy and Cro- atia was the best experience of my life. It was just amazing, and I wouldn't trade it for anything." What She Hopes To Get Out Of Her Experi- ence At Michigan: "Create relationships, and I'm already kind of feeling those thus far because ev- eryone here is so amazing and easy to get along with. I would say, graduating and getting my degree and learning academically but also on the sports side, too, just becoming the best player that I can be. Being surrounded by coaches that push us, I will reach that, so I'm excited." — Clayton Sayfie ❱  Getting To Know Women's Basketball Freshman Guard Macy Brown Brown was a four-star recruit and the No. 74 overall player in her class, per ESPN.com.
