And then it opened up. Nimari makes a shot and Olivier makes a shot in the corner … we shot the ball really well, and we put pressure on them. They had five team fouls in the first couple of minutes be- cause there was some pressure put on them. … I thought we put pressure on them by being quicker with the ball. The ball did not stick in the second half." JAELIN LLEWELLYN RETURNS TO ACTION M i c h i g a n p o i n t g u a r d J a e l i n Llewellyn, injured last year after play- ing in only seven games, returned to the court at Oregon Dec. 2, almost a year to the day after tearing his ACL against Kentucky in London. "There was no holding back," interim and associate head coach Phil Martelli said. "It was not a heavy practice [one day prior to the game], but he was fully engaged, so there are no indications that he would not at least continue [to play]. And I'm not saying 'minute restric- tions.' We just don't deal with that kind of term. He was available yesterday for practice." Llewellyn played 8 minutes in a 78- 75 loss to Indiana the following week and notched 3 points and 2 turnovers. Though he missed the Iowa game, a 90- 80 win Dec. 10, his role is expected to grow as he gets back into full basketball shape and regains his confidence in his surgically repaired knee. "First of all, a great example, a great tribute to [head trainer] Chris Williams, the trainers, the doctors — because the players watched," Martelli said. "We might be on one court, but the play- ers knew on the other court Jaelin was working and working and working to get to this moment. "Does that mean a double-digit scorer? No, that's not an expectation. Does it mean a calming voice? Yes. Does it mean that grit and determination that you want from every player? Yes. We have mixed him in with [sophomore point guard] Dug [McDaniel] … and what we really want for Jaelin is for his play to reward all of the sacrifices and the hard work that he has put in since last December, when he got hurt." Llewellyn is an older, calmer player who brings appreciation to the oppor- tunities presented, Martelli added. "Sometimes when you're young, you think, well, I have another 90 games, or I have another practice next week," he said. "And Jaelin is a shining example … that could be gone in a snap of a finger." — Chris Balas REPORTED ALTERCATION BETWEEN COACHES UNDER INVESTIGATION Reports of an "altercation" between head coach Juwan Howard, who has been back on the bench for several games but not in the head coach's chair after Sep- Graduate point guard Jaelin Llewellyn returned to the court at Oregon Dec. 2, about one year after tearing his ACL against Kentucky in London.
