MARCH 2024 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 13 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Grant McCurry is a two-time Aca- demic All-Big Ten honoree. The 6-foot, 175-pounder has appeared in 27 career games as a defensive midfielder during the last three seasons, totaling 6 goals and 2 assists with 23 shots and 10 ground balls. He competed in 10 contests in 2023, but missed a portion of the season with an injury. The Solon, Ohio, native is expected to play a significant role as a senior this spring. Here are some things about McCurry that you might not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From So- lon, Ohio.: "Solon High School is a big sports school. We have a pretty historic football program, and we actually used to be really good at lacrosse, but we kind of had some down years recently. My fa- vorite thing was the sports aspect of it." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "Frita Batidos and Poke Fish." Best Meal He Can Cook By Him- self: "I'm not the biggest cook. I could say my favorite thing my mom makes, and that is brisket and potatoes. When- ever I go home, she always has that ready for me." Favorite Professional Athlete: "I have to go with Tom Brady. Michigan guy. I just think his competitiveness really shines through. He was a sixth- round NFL Draft pick, wasn't a big re- cruit coming out of high school, faced some adversity in college, and then is a seven-time Super Bowl champ and one of the winningest quarterbacks in his- tory. Tom Brady embodies what I want to be competitively. He's a great person, too." Sport He Enjoys Playing Besides Lacrosse: "Football. There's honestly nothing like stepping out on a football field ready to take someone's head off. I played it since I was a kid and always loved it so much. Now, I like playing pickleball with some of my friends, and basketball, too." Favorite Television Show: "How I Met Your Mother." Favorite Movie: "Good Will Hunt- ing." Why He Chose Michigan: "The overall combination of athletics and academics, and the fact that my whole family went here, that was the big driv- ing factor. Also, Frita Batidos." What He Hopes To Do After La- crosse: "I've accepted a job doing bank- ing in New York City. It's super exciting." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "Winning the Big Ten championship last year. That moment of when the clock hit zero, rushing out to see the goalie and our defense, taking the picture and being able to talk to all our parents afterward. That feeling of, we've arrived, finally got over the hump, was something that I always dreamed of when I committed here. We wanted to change the culture and be the ones that have a lasting im- pact on Michigan lacrosse, and I think the Big Ten championship win was a whole culmination of that." Overall Experience At Michigan: "It's been amazing — absolutely amaz- ing. There's been so much change in my time here. When we came in, as a la- crosse team we went 3-9 my first year. The changes and growth you see on the team from everyone — the players, the coaches — it's been nothing short of amazing. … I can honestly say I've be- come a much better person than when I came in. My overall experience at Michi- gan has exceeded my expectations, and I had high expectations." — Clayton Sayfie ❱ Getting To Know Men's Lacrosse Senior Midfielder Grant McCurry McCurry, a defensive midfielder, missed a portion of last season with an injury but was in the lineup for Michigan's win against Maryland in the Big Ten championship game and first-round NCAA Tournament victory at Cornell.
