20 THE WOLVERINE ❱ MARCH 2024 players at Michigan when they could have taken huge offers to hit the portal. We'll see what spring brings, but it's clear the players like and respect Moore and want him to succeed. Junior-to-be safety Keon Sabb was the only projected starter to announce for the portal as of Feb. 20, and the Michigan NIL game continues to improve, giving Moore added support. Replacing a legend isn't easy, but following in Harbaugh's footsteps isn't what Moore should be focus- ing on, Jansen said … and he likely won't. "Talking about being the next coach at the University of Michi- gan … he's checked all the boxes," Jansen said of Moore. "No matter who was going to be sitting in that chair, there were going to be ques- tions — can they live up to who was here before, like Bo [Schembechler], Mo [Gary Moeller], Lloyd [Carr], all of them? Those questions will be answered over the coming years. "But what he's done so far — every challenge he's been given along the way coaching the tight ends, the offensive line, being a play-caller, stepping in in tough situations to be acting head coach — he's aced all of those. Tell me who across the country could put that on their résumé." In addition, Jansen said, Moore is one of the most down-to-earth people he's met. "I've gotten a chance to know him and his family, and here's what I like — his priority is in the right place," Jansen said. "First and foremost, it's his faith. Whoever's faith doesn't matter. That's a priority, along with his family, and then it becomes about football. "If you're talking faith, family and football, to me, you've got your pri- orities lined up. Then, if things are in the right place at the right time, you have the right support staff around you, now all of a sudden, let's go win some damn games." OFF AND RUNNING That's the expectation, and Moore made it clear when he ad- dressed his team as permanent head coach for the first time in the weight room Jan. 27.
