■ Going In For The Kill
Sophie Groom and her NC State volleyball
teammates put the hammer down on Vir-
ginia Tech in the teams' ACC opener. Groom,
a junior middle blocker from Orlando, Fla.,
had 4 kills to help the Wolfpack sweep the
Hokies on Sept. 27 at Reynolds Coliseum. NC
State hit .337 as a team, with junior outside
hitter Courtney Bryant supplying a match-
high 11 kills and 8 digs.
The Pack followed its emphatic victory with
a 3-1 win over Virginia two days later. Junior
outside hitter Ava Brizard and senior opposite
hitter Amanda Rice led the Pack with 16 and
15 kills, respectively. Coming off an early-
October road trip to the Bay Area to face new
ACC members Stanford and Cal, NC State was
7-5 on the season.
