C O M Aboubacar Camara — Men's Soccer Camara transferred to Penn State in the offseason after a year at Kentucky and three years at Louisville, where he started 46 consecutive matches and was the Cardinals' top scorer each of his seasons with the team. The graduate forward from Upper Darby, Pa., scored both goals in Penn State's 2-1 victory over Rutgers on Oct. 7 at Jeffrey Field, and he was the only Nittany Lion to find the net in a 3-1 loss at Washington on Oct. 18. Camara had played in nine of Penn State's first 14 games and was leading the team in points (10) and goals (5). His goal total was tied for sixth in the Big Ten. Florence Caron — Women's Cross Country A senior middle-distance standout from La Malbaie, Quebec, Caron is hitting her stride heading into the postseason. At the Princeton Fall Classic on Oct. 18, Caron shaved more than 30 seconds off her personal best in the six-kilometer race, finishing in 19:25.1 to place third overall in a strong field at Princeton, N.J. She has been a key performer all season for the No. 21 Nittany Lions, who are set to compete in the Big Ten Championships on Nov. 1 at Champaign, Ill., before playing host to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Cham- pionships on Nov. 15 at the Blue & White Courses. Aidan Fink — Men's Ice Hockey A sophomore forward from Calgary, Alberta, Fink received second-team preseason All-Big Ten honors in September. He was coming off a debut season in which he led the Nittany Lions in points (34) and goals (15), and he has since picked up right where he left off. Through Penn State's first three games, Fink was tied for second in the Big Ten with 7 points on a goal and 6 assists. He had 4 assists in Penn State's season-opening two-game sweep of Alaska, including 3 in the Nittany Lions' 5-0 shutout victory on Oct. 6 in Fairbanks. He also had a goal in that game. Izzy Starck — Women's Volleyball Starck has been a huge part of Penn State's surge back to the top of the Big Ten standings. As of mid- October, the setter from Viera, Fla., had received the league's Freshman of the Week award four times, with the most recent honor coming after road wins over Michigan State (3-0, Oct. 11) and Indiana (3-1, Oct. 13) in which she totaled 85 assists, 19 digs, 4 kills and 3 blocks. Heading into Penn State's visit to UCLA on Oct. 24, Starck was second in the Big Ten in both total assists (735) and assists per set (11.14). — Matt Herb PENN STATE'S TOP PERFORMERS Join at BlueWhiteIllustrated.com!
