C O M The one benefit of having Donkoh and Rucci sidelined is that some of the team's younger lineman have been able to step in and show what they can do. One of Penn State's spring standouts was redshirt sophomore J'ven Williams, a former five-star prospect who by all accounts is starting to capitalize on his potential. "It's really good experience and a good opportunity for him," Franklin said. "The way he's going right now, he's going to end up being a part of that competition for the right tackle spot, too." Even with Williams coming on strong, Donkoh and Rucci lead the way here. If both are healthy, Williams might find more opportunities for playing time at guard, a reflection of Trautwein's success at cross-training his linemen so that they can contribute at multiple positions. On the opposite side of the line, se- nior left tackle Drew Shelton finally en- joyed a healthy spring and is back to hold down his starting spot. The 6-foot-5, 308-pounder is part of a long list of vet- erans who could have left for the NFL but opted instead to play one more year at the college level.
