N O V E M B E R 2 0 2 5 71 W W W . B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . C O M P enn State fans are very familiar with all the ways that Tyler War- ren can hurt a defense. NFL teams are now very aware of that fact, too. The Indianapolis Colts tight end has had a sensational start to his time in the pros. Through six games, he has tallied 29 receptions for 307 yards and 2 touch- downs. In the Colts' 31-27 victory over Arizona on Oct. 12, he led the team with 6 catches for 63 yards and a score. Warren also has a rushing touch- down, and he's been quite good as a blocker, which has long been the case for the former Nittany Lion. "When you've got a guy with that type of skill set, you want to be able to use that skill set," Colts head coach Shane Steichen said. Warren sees his versatility as a crucial asset. "If you can [block and catch passes], you're not only going to be more valu- able to yourself, but you add more value to the offense and make it a better of- fense," he said. "I think it's really im- portant." Warren's early success at the NFL level is not a surprise to former posi- tion coach Ty Howle. The two still stay in touch, the current Nittany Lion as- sistant said in October, and he's thrilled to see Warren have such an early impact in the pros. "We talk once or twice a week, just checking in and making sure he's good," Howle said. "He's doing great. He's pro- ducing on the field and having a great experience. I talked to him for about 45 minutes the other night. He loves it. He's playing well, thinks they're happy with him, and he's a kid that just works and does his job and he's doing well, producing, and having fun doing it." FORMER NITTANY LIONS IN THE NFL As of Oct. 15 Saquon Barkley (Played at Penn State from 2015-17), RB, Philadelphia Eagles: Barkley is not having as good a start to the 2025 season as he did in 2024. The Eagles' offense has not picked up where it left off in last year's Super Bowl championship run. The second-year Philadelphia back has carried 95 times for 325 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also has a receiving TD. Ryan Bates (2016-18), OL, Chicago Bears: Bates is playing only special teams for the Bears this year. He has 24 snaps, all coming on field goal and extra points. Jaquan Brisker (2019-21), S, Chicago Bears: Brisker had an interception that he returned for 32 yards in the Bears' win over Washing- ton in Week 6. He has 24 tackles on the year and also a quarterback hurry. Ji'Ayir Brown (2020-22), S, San Francisco 49ers: Brown has started two of the 49ers' six games this year. He has 12 tackles and a pass breakup. Abdul Carter (2022-24), DE, New York Gi- ants: Carter has started one of six games so far during his rookie season. He has netted 13 tackles (1 for loss), half a sack and 8 quar- terback hurries. Tyler Warren Making An Early Impact In Indianapolis G R E G P I C K E L | G R E G . P I C K E L @ O N 3 .
