Under the Dome 1.167 Billion dollars the University of Notre Dame is worth annually to St. Joseph County and South Bend, according to a report released Sept. 26 by the school. The comprehensive economic study is done about every five years. This year's figure is up 33 percent from the $873 million impact per year that was released in 2007. 2 Head coaches we know of over the last 92 years that defeated Notre Dame at different schools. Howard Jones achieved it first at Iowa (1921) and then at USC several times in the 1920s and 1930s. Johnny Majors also accomplished it at Pitt (1975-76) and Tennessee (1979 and 1991). Arizona State's Todd Graham will attempt to join the exclusive club Oct. 5. Graham was the head coach at Tulsa when the Golden Hurricanes won 28-27 at Notre Dame in 2010, and he also nearly defeated Notre Dame at Pitt in 2011 before falling 15-12. 4 Former Notre Dame football players or assistants who were inducted into The Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame Sept. 18. All four played high school football in Chicago: 1953 Heisman Trophy winner John Lattner (Fenwick), 1990-93 linebacker Pete Bercich (Providence Catholic), 1993-96 defensive end Renaldo Wynn (De La Salle) and late 1977-83 Irish assistant coach Jim Johnson (Proviso East). 114.2 Average per-game rushing yards gained and allowed by Notre Dame during its 3-1 start this year. The Irish compiled 123 carries while opponents had 124, so the yards per carry (3.7) also were the same, which seldom occurs one-third of the way into a season. After four games in 2012 it was relatively similar at 140.2-112.5 in favor of Notre Dame before it reached 202 at the end of the regular season and finished at 189.4. 153-41 Margin that Notre Dame has outscored its first four opponents in the Shamrock Series games, never winning by less than 24 points with an average score of 38-10. The winning results were 40-14 versus Washington State (2009 at San Antonio), 27-3 versus Army (2010 at New York), 45-21 against Maryland (2011 in the Washington, D.C., area) and 41-3 last year against Miami (at Chicago). Arizona State is projected to be a much more formidable foe this season.
