Reflections of a cloudy blue sky and the green grass of Notre Dame Stadium shine on the
gold helmet of Irish freshman wide receiver James Onwualu. Notre Dame started wearing
the polished new headgear two years ago in October as part of an effort to return a little
more luster to the home game experience in South Bend. They wore them for the first time
against USC in what was the program's first night kickoff in two decades. The efforts to build
enthusiasm in the stadium continued Saturday against Oklahoma when the school gave
away 40,000 green pom-poms in an effort to turn the stands into one solid color of fandom.
