Numbers Crunching For 2014 A total of 13 scholarship players will exhaust their eligibility at Notre Dame after this season, six of them fifth-year seniors and seven of them after four seasons. • Fifth-year seniors: Offensive left tackle Zack Martin, offensive left guard Chris Watt, inside linebackers Carlo Calabrese and Dan Fox, nose guard Tyler Stockton and kicker Nick Tausch. • Fourth-year seniors: Quarterback Tommy Rees, wide receivers TJ Jones and Daniel Smith, defensive lineman Kona Schwenke, outside linebackers Prince Shembo and Danny Spond, and cornerback Bennett Jackson. There are also 10 fourth-year seniors who are eligible to take a fifth in 2014. Projecting into 2014, here is a cursory overview of the current scholarship breakdown: • Twenty-three fourth-year seniors — This includes the potential readmission of quarterback Everett Golson this January and defensive end Stephon Tuitt — projected as a first-round pick — returning instead of turning pro. • Thirteen juniors — Only 17 signed but four have transferred, including quarterback Gunner Kiel (Cincinnati). • Twenty-three sophomores — Led by starting Dog linebacker Jaylon Smith and starting right guard Steve Elmer, 10 current freshmen have used up one year of eligibility. • Eighteen verbal commits for the class of 2014 — The most recent addition
