Under the Dome was Indiana defensive athlete Drue Tranquill. Assuming those numbers hold up, that gives Notre Dame 77 scholarship players among an 85 permitted by the NCAA for the 2014 campaign. That means eight more scholarships can be distributed among fifth-year seniors and other incoming recruits. Where will those eight come from? There is always some ambivalence because much of it is contingent on who is being recruited and what the chances are of landing a premier prospect at a certain position, or even if Tuitt is returning. The following players are eligible for a fifth season in 2014: safety Austin Collinsworth, offensive lineman Bruce Heggie, q u a r t e r b a c k A n d re w Hendrix, offensive guard Christian Lombard, wide receiver Luke Massa, inside linebacker Kendall Moore, nose guard Louis Notre Dame senior linebacker Kendall Moore, who has played Nix III, tight end Alex in 36 games and made 32 tackles the past three years, is one of a small group of players likely to return for a fifth season of Welch, defensive end Jus- eligibility in South Bend next fall. tin Utupo and cornerback Photo by Bill panzica Lo Wood. The three most likely to return on our list would be Lombard, Collinsworth and Moore. Although Moore has never started on defense, there is an acute need at inside linebacker with the departure of Calabrese and Fox, plus Jarrett Grace returning from major leg surgery. That would leave at least five more scholarships for the 2014 class, assuming no other attrition occurs.
