Under the Dome Top of The Class Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Julie Vrabel — Tennis The sophomore finished her first fall season by winning all three of her singles matches and making it to the semifinals of the doubles tournament at the Western Michigan Super Challenge Nov. 8-10. She and partner Monica Robinson lost to a duo from Indiana. Vrabel, a native of Centreville, Va., won the USTA 18s doubles crown at the national open as a senior in high school. Her next meet will be Jan. 18 after the semester break. Zach Stephens — Swimming Notre Dame's most valuable swimmer from a season ago is off to another fast start this fall. Stephens won four events for the Irish in a 191.5-108.5 win over Wisconsin Nov. 16. He captured breaststroke events at 100 and 200 meters, the 200 individual medley and the 200 medley relay. A year ago, the junior from Pennsylvania was a Big East Academic All-Star and a second-team All-American in the 200 breaststroke. Harrison Shipp — Soccer The senior captain was named the ACC's Offensive Player of the Year at the close of the regular season. He finished as the conference's second-place scorer with nine goals and eight assists. The first-team all-league pick and Irish team captain is also a finalist for the Senior Class Award, given to one player in the country from each varsity sport for success on the field, in the classroom and in the community. Morgan Andrews — Soccer The ACC's Rookie of the Year scored two goals in Notre Dame's 4-1 win over Iowa Nov. 15 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Andrews led the Irish in scoring with seven goals and five assists during her freshman season. She is the 11th player in program history to win a conference's rookie of the year award. She was also selected as a secondteam All-ACC pick.
