Notre Dame players — that we know of
officially — who have had their 2013 season ended because of injuries/medical
problems. In the preseason, the list included senior outside linebacker Danny Spond (severe migraines), junior
defensive linemen Chase Hounshell (labrum) and Tony
Springmann (knee), sophomore safety Nicky Baratti
(shoulder), freshman outside linebacker
Doug Randolph (shoulder), and
freshman wide receiver Torii Hunter Jr. from a major
leg injury incurred last
winter. In early October,
freshman running back
Greg Bryant (knee), junior inside linebacker
Jarrett Grace (broken
right leg) and senior
wide receiver Daniel Smith (ankle)
all were sidelined
for the balance
of the season, as
were senior right
guard Christian
Lombard (back)
and junior outside linebacker
Ben Councell
(knee) later in the
month. The November
casualties included senior nose guard Louis
Nix III (knee) and
junior center Nick
Martin (knee).
