who spent the first semester of the 2013-14 term at Fork Union, chose the Wahoos Dec. 18 after taking official visits to Virginia, Southern Miss and Cincinnati in a three-day span. Fieler also is unrated by Rivals.com. The other two commitments came during the season even as UVa was struggling on the field. The first came Oct. 18 when Latimore decided to commit to London's program following an official visit to Charlottesville. The 6-0, 161-pound corner, a three-star prospect according to Rivals.com, had offers from Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, among others. Dowling's commitment came just days after Virginia chose to offer the 6-1, 206-pound athlete. Dowling, who is rated as a two-star recruit by Rivals.com, can play several positions and is a former teammate of several current Cavaliers, including second-year cornerback Maurice Canady, firstyear defensive tackle Tyrell Chavis and first-year cornerback Tim Harris. The all-star game season was also good to UVa's commits. Blanding and Brown were selected to play in the Chesapeake Bowl, though they were unable to participate because of their previous commitment to the prestigious Under Armour AllAmerican Game Jan. 2, in St. Petersburg, Fla. In that contest, Blanding recorded six tackles, and Brown made one stop to help Team Highlight defeat Team Nitro 31-21. Kamara was the lone future Wahoo to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Jan. 4, but didn't record any statistics in the East's 28-6 loss to the West. Meanwhile, Fredericksburg (Va.) Chancellor offensive lineman Steven Moss (four-star star recruit and No. 15 guard nationally according to Rivals.com) and Upland (Calif.) High athlete Jeffery Farrar (three-star prospect and No. 40 athlete in the land) were chosen to take part in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl Jan. 5 in Carson, Calif. Will Richardson, a three-star offensive line commit from Burlington (N.C.) Cummings, played in i27.UVa Recruiting.indd 2 the annual Shrine Bowl, which pits the best of the Tar Heel State against their rivals from South Carolina. Though he remains a member of UVa's class, he's one of several recruits that have continued to garner attention from other schools, including North Carolina State and Florida State. Of the players in UVa's 2014 class, two (Brown and Fieler) began their Virginia careers early, enrolling Jan. 9, meaning they'll take part in spring football when the Cavaliers return to the field in a couple of months. Though the class included 15 high school seniors and two 2013 commits — Cutler and Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith wide receiver Zack Jones — as mid-January, there could be more added to the list. Chesapeake (Va.) Western Branch cornerback DaiQuan Lawrence, who took an official visit to UVa in December with Kamara and Carter, is set to decide shortly before National Signing Day after taking trips to Syracuse, East Carolina and Wake Forest. Lawrence, who is rated as a two-star prospect, was committed to the Demon Deacons before former head coach Jim Grobe stepped down after the season. In addition, Virginia is in the mix for an official visit from Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes star Derrick Nnadi, who is ranked by Rivals.com as a four-star recruit, the No. 2 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 40 overall player in the class of 2014. Nnadi has officially visited Florida State and Penn State, and was planning to see Ohio State, Virginia Tech and UVa before making a decision. Finally, unrated but emerging athlete Daniel Ezeagwu of Stafford (Va.) Colonial Forge picked up late offers from UVa and Maryland, and was expected to take his official visit to Charlottesville the weekend of Jan. 17, which coincided with the official visits from essentially the entire class of 2014. Like most other years, UVa brought its commits on Grounds on the same weekend for their official visits just a couple of weeks prior to National Signing Day (Feb. 4). ◆ 1/16/14 11:16 AM
