INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS cal leap (30.5 inches) and standing broad jump (117 inches), while notching 29 reps on the bench press. "Lewan is an experienced, finesse left tackle with the length, agility and temperament to hold down a starting job for a long time," NFL.com's Nolan Nawrocki summarized. "Is nuanced in pass protection and would fit best in a slide-lateral movement, bucket-stepping, zone-based block- ing scheme. Similar in mold to Patriots 2011 17th overall selection Nate Solder." Lewan is expected to be a first-round pick and should be off the board no later than No. 15. Bookend tackle Michael Schofield was mea- sured at 6-6 and 301 pounds at the NFL Combine. He ran 5.01 seconds in the 40-yard dash to rank sixth among offensive linemen and had a 24- inch vertical. Schofield, who did not perform the bench press at the NFL Combine or U-M's Pro Day because of a left-hand bruise suffered at the Senior Bowl Jan. 25, is a projected middle- to late-round pick. Wide receiver Jeremy Gallon was the third and final Wolverine to attend the NFL Combine. He was measured at 5-7 and 185 pounds, ran the 40 in 4.49 seconds (20 th among receivers) and did 15 reps (13th) on the 225-pound bench press. At Michigan's Pro Day, Gallon added a 39.5-inch vertical leap to his résumé. "Gallon lacks the size scouts would prefer, and he is competing against a re- ceiver group that is as deep and talented as any position in the draft," CBSSports. com draft expert Rob Rang noted. "He's a proven playmaker who recorded a career-high 80 receptions for 1,284 yards and nine scores as a senior, and could prove a steal if still on the board in the late rounds." Among the highlights at Michigan's Pro Day — U-M did not release the results for every player in every category — tailback Fitz Toussaint recorded 24 reps of the 225-pound bench press, a 35.5-inch vertical jump and a 4.49 40-yard dash, as well as the day's top times in the three-cone drill (6.59 seconds) and 20-yard shuttle run (4.10 seconds). Safety Thomas Gordon had the best vertical leap, touching 40.5 inches. He also had a 10-foot, 5.5-inch standing broad jump and a 4.49 40-yard dash. Defensive tackle Jibreel Black led the Wolverines with 29 bench-press reps, while fellow defensive tackle Quinton Washington was second with 26. Linebacker Cam Gordon ran the 40 in 4.65 seconds, wide receiver Joe Reynolds had a vertical jump of 37.5 inches and defensive back Courtney Avery jumped 36.5 inches. Offensive tackle Taylor Lewan ran a 4.87 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, the best time for any offensive lineman there. PHOTO BY TIM NELSON
