a personal record of 52.50 meters (172 feet, seven inches). My advice to student-athletes is: Use all of your resources whether they pertain to academics or nutri- tion. Other student-athletes do this throughout their careers. Start early. Don't wait until your third or fourth year to start using your resources. The primary challenge facing student-athletes today is: Finding the time. We're trying to fit so much into the course of a day. We have two practices a day plus a course load. Along with having other things to do, it's a huge challenge. The best thing about UVa is: The people. The com- munity is great. The school and community are immea- surable in my opinion. Why I chose UVa: I chose it because of the great bal- ance between academics and athletics. It was a great balance between the two that got me here. What I like the most about track and field: I like the diversity. We are one of the few coed teams at UVa. It's just being part of a huge team. We have over 60 individuals on the team, so it's been great in that way. The highlight of my UVa athletic career: Last sea- son, I was second at the ACCs (in the javelin), and also making it to nationals (where she placed 19th) was a huge accomplishment for me. The most important thing I've learned from track and field: Never give up. You always can push yourself harder and you always can push yourself to the next level. Chase those goals and dreams. My dream vacation would be: Italy. I would love to go up into the country and eat Italian food. My post-college ambition is: To be successful in whatever I choose to do career-wise. — Mike Scandura Visit RWRmobile.com to nd up to date listings in the area. Driving around Central Virginia?
