FOOTBALL RECRUITING June 20 greatly helped Notre Dame's chances. From Beaverton, Ore., at Nike's The Opening, Blue & Gold Illustrated re- ported that Notre Dame was the team to beat based on conversations with sources close to Coney's recruitment. That still looks to be the case, although Florida tightened the situation up dur- ing his recent visit to Gainesville July 31. Coney will take an official visit to Notre Dame Sept. 6 for the game against Michigan. There is a chance he could leave campus as a committed member of Notre Dame's 2015 class. BYRON COWART DE • 6-4 • 250 Seffner, Fla. (Armwood) Junior Statistics: Recorded 72 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two defensive touchdowns. 247Sports Rankings: Five- star recruit, the No. 15 overall player in the land, the No. 3 strong- side defensive end in the nation and the No. 5 prospect in Florida. Skinny: Cowart has the talent to step in and contribute very early at Notre Dame, but he will be an extremely tough pull from the state of Florida. Florida has long been con- sidered the school that will likely land Cowart, but Florida State is also very much in the mix. Cowart visited Notre Dame June 24, and the trip was admittedly an eye- opener for the elite pass rusher. Al- though a date hasn't been set up at this time, Cowart is expected to return to South Bend for an official visit in the fall. The game against Stanford Oct. 4 is a potential date to watch if the visit occurs. NEVILLE GALLIMORE DT • 6-3 • 300 St. Catherines, Ontario (Canada Prep Football Academy) Junior Statistics: Tallied 45 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and seven sacks. 247Sports Rankings: Four- star prospect, the No. 34 overall player in the 2015 class, the No. 5 defensive tackle nationally and the No. 1 recruit in Canada. Skinny: The recruitment of the 6-3, 300-pound Gallimore is still very much in its early stages. He has offers from Notre Dame, Florida State, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Oregon and many oth- ers. However, sources close to the situ- ation indicate that the elite Canadian prospect will end up at Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan State or Notre Dame. Gallimore is expected to take all five of his official visits and decide on or around National Signing Day in Febru- ary. Gallimore has scheduled an official visit to Oklahoma Sept. 12, and also plans to travel to Michigan State and Ohio State (dates to be determined). If Notre Dame can sneak in and land one of his final visits, there's a chance the Irish could land him.
