FOOTBALL RECRUITING another six throws at cornerback. At wide receiver, he caught 45 passes for 935 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is being recruited as a corner- back by the Irish, but 247Sports ranks Ross as the No. 8 wide receiver in the country. He also is listed as the No. 14 prospect in California and the No. 85 overall player in the class of 2015. It's a long shot, but Notre Dame also is hoping to pull off an upset and flip a commitment from the University of Alabama. Columbus (Ga.) Carver four-star defensive end Mekhi Brown, a 6-6, 250-pounder who pledged to the Crimson Tide on April 6, 2013, will use one of his five official visits to see the Irish. Brown hasn't completely shut down his recruitment, and Notre Dame, Georgia, Florida State and oth- ers remain in the mix for the ferocious pass rusher. This will be Brown's second visit to campus. In June, shortly after he received an offer from Notre Dame, Brown visited South Bend and was impressed by the experience. Notre Dame laid out the red carpet for the U.S. Army All-American. "Notre Dame is No. 2 behind only Alabama now," Brown told 247Sports national analyst Ryan Bartow. "I just like how well they treated me there. It was like being at Alabama, but Notre Dame took it to another level. They took good care of me there." During a tour of colleges, Brown made stops at North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ohio State and Indiana, but it was the trip to Notre Dame that grabbed his attention. That visit sin- gle-handedly earned the Irish coach- ing staff an official visit from the Geor- gia native. "Notre Dame was easily my favor- ite place of the trip," he said. "They sold the school. The education there is so valuable. It's like getting an Ivy League degree. Plus, the history aspect of the football program is huge. "I love all of the coaches. They kept it honest. They just want my parents Columbus (Ga.) Carver standout Mekhi Brown — a 6-6, 250-pound defensive end — committed to Alabama in April 2013, but is still considering Notre Dame and will take an official visit when the Irish play Stanford Oct. 4.
