with Golson finding Robinson after
Florida State's touchdown on the third
quarter's first possession. Senior kicker
Kyle Brindza added a 46-yard field goal
after Florida State tied the game at 24.
Brindza, also Notre Dame's punter,
pinned Florida State deep within its
own territory with a 32-yard punt late
in the fourth quarter. He did not, how-
ever, get the chance to do the same in the
second quarter, and that decision had an
impact on the game.
The Irish faced a fourth-and-one at
midfield, but instead of punting Kelly
opted to go for it for the third time in the
first half. A fumbled snap doomed the
first fourth-and-one try at the FSU 38,
while the second resulted in a first down
on a three-yard run by senior running
back Cam McDaniel on Notre Dame's
first touchdown drive.
The third time, however, was not a
charm. The Irish ran the option and
Golson's quick pitch to Folston was
sniffed out by Florida State redshirt ju-
nior safety Tyler Hunter and stopped
for no gain.
"I thought we had a good play," Kelly
said. "In hindsight it didn't work out,
and we helped them to three points."
The field goal Florida State kicked on
the ensuing possession, courtesy of the
Junior nose guard Jarron Jones was credited with six tackles, three for lost yardage, while helping limit
Florida State's offense to 323 yards.
