PREP PROFILES Cookeville (Tenn.) High tight end Gabe Angel picked up his first offer from Mississippi State when he was in eighth grade. The 6-3, 215-pound junior has added seven offers since then, from Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Ten- nesseee, Vanderbilt and North Carolina. However, another big one could be on its way. Angel, one of the most talented class of 2016 prospects in the nation, first visited South Bend for the Notre Dame- Navy game during the 2013 season and came away very impressed. That trip gave him a lot to think about and has made the Irish a major player in his recruitment. "I had a great time up there and loved the atmosphere and every- thing," Angel said. "It was just differ- ent than what I'm used to. It definitely opened my eyes. I had a great trip. "I could definitely see myself at Notre Dame. If I'm offered, I just have to see how I fit in the system, see what position they like me at, build a rela- tionship with the coaching staff and go from there." Angel is being recruited by Notre Dame offensive line coach Harry Hi- estand. The two sat down and had some great conversations while in South Bend and have talked since that trip. "Coach Hiestand is the coach I've talked to the most," Angel said. "He's real cool and per- s o n a b l e a n d j u s t f r i e n d l y. We h a d s o m e r e a l g o o d talks, and he seemed really interested in me when I was up there and has shown a lot of interest since my first trip." Angel made the trip to Notre Dame with his father, and the two plan on returning for a second trip at some point in the future, likely during the summer before his senior year. The younger Angel admits that he's not sure who enjoyed the first trip more between him and his father, but he's definitely looking forward to working out in front of the Irish coaching staff next summer. "My dad loved it up there," Angel said. "He kept taking pictures of ev- erything while we were on the cam- pus and just walking around. We're both big college football fans, so it was a trip we were really looking forward to taking." — Tom Loy Four-Star Tennessee Tight End Can See Himself At ND GABE ANGEL ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Cookeville High School Cookeville, Tenn.
